Winter Nights 2009: Volunteer Opportunities

We need over 325 volunteers to make the program operational at Temple Isaiah.  The areas where we need volunteers are listed below:

  • Sleep Over (8:30 p.m. – 7:00 a.m. & Help w/ Breakfast)
  • Cook Breakfast on Weekend Day & Christmas (12/19, 12/25, 12/26 or 12/27)
  • Set-up Social Hall/Oneg Area (12/14, Time TBD)
  • Take down Social Hall/Oneg Area (12/28, 8:00 – 11:00 a.m.)
  • Supervise & Participate in Afternoon Activities (5:10 – 6:30 p.m., 12/14 – 12/27)
  • Supervise & Participate Evening Activities (7:00 – 9:00 p.m., 12/14 – 12/27)
  • Supervise & Participate Weekend Activities (4 hour shifts, 12/19, 12/20 12/25, 12/26, 12/27)
  • Shop for Basics & Supplies (Pre-Winter Nights Activity & Daily Winter Nights)
  • Bake holiday cookies (Pre-Winter Nights Activity & Daily Winter Nights)
  • Shop for holiday gifts (Pre-Winter Nights Activity)
  • Gift Wrapping (12/20)
  • Solicit donations (gas cards, BART tickets, bus passes, laundry coupons, movie passes, cash for gifts) (Pre-Winter Nights Activity)
  • Cook and Serve Meal (12/14 – 12/27)
  • Assist with laundry (12/21, 12/28, 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.)
  • Tutor (5:00 – 6:30 p.m. - 12/14 – 12/17)
  • Cook and peel 1 dozen Hard-Boiled Eggs
  • Donations – car seats, high chairs, Pack ‘n Play, Booster Seats
  • Other jobs as needed (TBD)

Menus are pre-assigned by nights and the Crew Chief will assign dishes and coordinate cook/server teams of volunteers. Crew Chiefs also provide a complete set of directions of everything that you have to do. Volunteers will receive a link on the Temple website to the recipes for all dishes.

Since we host the shelter during the holidays, there are lots of fun evening activities for families to participate in, especially the Christmas Eve celebration. Children must be 10 or older to volunteer.
