Social Action: Advocacy Programs

Defining Temple Advocacy Policies

The Social Action Committee has launched an Advocacy Subcommittee. As a progressive Jewish community, we are charged with the responsibility of furthering the causes of social justice and Tikkun Olam. The Advocacy Subcommittee will prepare positions to educate the Temple Isaiah congregation on Reform Jewish ideals and values that address contemporary issues. With approval from the Board, the subcommittee and any others in the congregation that are interested will define ways that the congregation can support social justice.

Our first topic is hunger. It is amazing the number of people that go hungry every day right here in our own communities. We will start by doing in-depth research on all of the issues surrounding hunger including the most up-to-date knowledge of legislative initiatives. Our first project will be to offer the congregation a stimulating focus group of what we learn about this issue, beyond the food banks and shelter dinners. We will keep you posted on our progress and give you plenty of notice so you can attend the educational opportunities. We want your voice and opinions to be heard. If you have any questions or comments, please contact Judi Roberts.
