10:45-11:20—Individual activity time and Snack Time
During this time, your child can explore the environment and experience different activities in the room. The infants can explore different toys in different areas of the room and the crawlers can explore the room and other age appropriate toys. Take this time to play with your child or to observe what your child likes to do.
This will also be the time when snack will be available for the parents and for the little ones who are ready for it. There’ll be a sign up sheet for Snack.
This time can also provide a great opportunity for the parents to socialize with each other. Additionally, the parents are welcomed to raise parenting issues and questions for the facilitator and we can informally discuss the Jewish holidays and Jewish rituals.
We will also use this time to experience the topic of the day/the holiday, in a developmentally appropriate way. Frequently, the moms will be the ones to create those, however, the older kids, can help, or create these projects themselves. The activity will either be done individually to take home (like a Challah cover for Shabbat) or a group project that will stay (like Sukkah decorations for the Temple’s Sukkah).
11:20-11:40 Circle Time and Shabbat
At this time we will gather together as a group and welcome each child. We will sing Shabbat songs, appropriate holiday songs, and some finger-play Hebrew songs. Please have your child sit on your lap at the beginning of circle time so that they get used to the routine. If they do not want to stay seated, it is okay for them to move around with the music or play. We may also do bubbles and parachute play at this time. At the end of circle time we will say the Shabbat blessings together and have Challah.
