OUR YOUTH GROUPS

Temple Isaiah’s youth group events provide an enjoyable, enriching and safe environment for all participants. They include a wide variety of social and adventure-oriented activities with a Jewish infusion. Our intention is to allow young people to socialize, take responsibility for themselves and each other, and have new experiences within a Jewish peer community that emphasizes social action and ethical decision-making.  For more information about any of our youth groups call 284-9191 and ask for Dan Lange.

Simcha (5th and 6th Grades)
The Simcha program provides Temple Isaiah’s fifth and sixth graders with a Jewish peer group and positive social interactions.  Events promote the development of relationships between members that will, hopefully, extend outside of Simcha and into the future in Anachnu and LAFTY programs.
Events may include: Adventure Playground, Exploratorium, Glow Bowling, Imax and dinner at Planet Hollywood, Great America, Pier 39 Scavenger Hunts, and more.

Anachnu (7th & 8th Grades)
The Anachnu youth group continues to build the vibrant community foundation for our youth as they become B’nai Mitzvah.  Members are invited to take a greater responsibility for the success of events, and share in the decision making necessary to plan successful activities.  They are also encouraged to apply the knowledge they have gained in Religious School by helping with our creative Tefillah (prayers) and confronting complex social issues.
Events may include: LA Trip, Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, Drive-In Movie, overnights at Temple, and more.

(9th-12th Grades)LAFTY
LAFTY is the flagship youth group at Temple Isaiah.  With its own internal leadership structure and acceptance as a full auxiliary in the Temple Isaiah community, LAFTY offers its members unique opportunities for cooperation, self-determination, and interdependence.  Entire events are dedicated to social action projects and Jewish religious and cultural experiences.  The extensive collaboration between LAFTY members and the adult staff allows for cooperative action and peer support.  At the leadership core of LAFTY are the members of the LAFTY Board, who are elected each year by their peers.  LAFTY Board members run the day-to-day operations of the group and represent the voice of the Temple’s youth on the Board of Directors.
Events may include: Lake Tahoe Ski Trip, Shul-In, Rosh Chodesh (girls-only) Event, Dudes Event, beach bonfires, Polaroid scavenger hunt, Spring Adventure and more.
