Gan Ilan Summer Program “Travel Around the World”

July 2, 2008

9:00 AM

Talmud Torah Center Gan Ilan Classrooms

Contact Denise Moyes-Schnur, Director of Early Childhood Education at 925-284-8453 for more information. Our program runs June 23 through August 1, 2008 [6 weeks], from 9am to 1 pm Mon-Fri.  Part-time or 5-days-per-week options are available. Sign up for one week or all six.

Where else can pre-schoolers travel around the world, exploring a variety of cultures every day through cooking, art, song, story and more, while safe and secure at Temple Isaiah? At Gan Ilan, of course, in our new summer program “Travel Around the World with Gan Ilan”!  Each week our young world-travelers will discover new tastes, sounds, smells and sights as they take a pretend trip, which will include a Shabbat celebration in each part of “the world” we visit. New this year is our Two-Year-Old program, giving The Twos the chance to explore world destinations with us, as well as experience our Large Motor Room, just full of opportunities for using big muscle skills that children of that age love.

Yachad at Cal Shakes : Oscar Wilde’s An Ideal Husband

July 3, 2008

Time TBA

California Shakespeare Theater at Orinda

Contact Mary Anne at 283-8575, ext. 301.

On Thursday, July 3rd, we’ll be attending the California Shakespeare performance of Oscar Wilde’s, An Ideal Husband.  An unwelcome visit from the past calls the future into question for a successful, young, and happily married politician. Behind Wilde’s trademark razor-sharp wit lies a profound observation of the illusions we use to deceive others and–more importantly–ourselves. Artistic Director Jonathan Moscone of the California Shakespeare Theater, fresh from his acclaimed production of Man and Superman, directs Wilde’s timely comedy.

We’ll meet at our reserved picnic tables in the picnic grove for dinner our “bring your own” picnic at 6:30 PM.  The Grove Talk introduction to the show starts at 7:15 PM and is a wonderful introduction to the show. Tickets for the show $23 for the seats one section back from the stage and $28 for the seats closest to the stage.  Mail your paid tickets reservations to Temple Isaiah, attention Mary Anne before Wednesday, June 25.

For information about the play and the other educational opportunities for understanding this performance, see the calshakes.org website.  You might want to meet with actors and some of the stage crew for this show at their Inside Scoop program at the Orinda Library on June 16.  These evening programs are free and open to the public, but only a capacity crowd is admitted.  You need to be in line to get a ticket at 6:30 PM before the event starts at 7 PM.  Once the allotted number of tickets are handed out, no other people are admitted.  In addition to the program, free Peets Coffee and Loard’s ice cream are served.
