URJ Techie Awards: Temple Isaiah Teen Programs

Temple Isaiah’s Youth Department has embraced technology in everything we do - from videos to facebook to constant contact email blasts and everywhere in between, we find that the best way to connect to our teens is through these emerging forms of media. We’ve included 7 of the videos we’ve made over the last three years to illustrate the different types of things we’ve done. All of these have been shown to our teens in person, posted to facebook and “gone viral,” and many have been posted to our website. If they’re on our website or on facebook, we’ve included a link to see them in context.

2010-2011 Noar Night (Teen School) Opening Night Video

On the first night of our teen education program this year, we screened this video as a way to get our teens excited for the year. We took the Emmy Awards opening, re-dubbed it with our own words and lyrics, and had a blast. The teens thought it was hysterical. Our Cantor lent us his voice in singing the song at the end.

2010-2011 Noar Night (Teen School) Promotional Video

In our continued efforts to engage our teens, we created a follow up to the 2009-2010 Promotional Video (Click to view below). This time, a new group of sophomores came in, rewrote a popular song, and recorded a music video. Again - a huge success. We see this as an ongoing tradition that has been created: a new group of sophomores each year will make the next promotional video.

Temple Isaiah Teens Share Their Thoughts About Judaism

We created this film for our annual Gala Fundraiser event, shown to our community to help “connect the silos.” We often find that the non-teen community doesn’t really understand what the teens do, and we thought this was a fantastic way to show them that our teens are taking part in valuable, honest, meaningful Jewish experiences with us.

2009-2010 Noar Night (Teen School) Opening Night Video

We “re-mixed” the promotional video created by some of our teens (Click to view below) to include all of the clergy, staff, and teachers of Temple Isaiah. We showed this on the first night to get our teens excited for the year to come. It proved successful - they thought it was HILARIOUS!

2009-2010 Noar Night (Teen School) Promo Video

We created this video as a “viral” marketing tool to get our teens to sign up for Noar Night, our teen program. We brought in a group of sophomores to write the song and record the music video. Having their classmates star in the video proved to be incredibly effective - people still sing the song two years later and laugh about it. This video was also shown at the URJ Biennial as an example of great web presence.

2008-2009 Noar Night (Teen School) Last Night Video

We showed this video to our teens the last night of our teen program as a way to look back on the year, reflect, and smile as we remembered the great times we all had. It was also a great way to get the teens excited to stay involved during the summer!
