Music Programs for Kids & Teens
Shira: Our Religious School Music Track
We are thrilled to announce a new pilot program for 4th, 5th, and 6th graders who love music and want to learn about Jewish life through the modality of music. This special Music Track of the Religious School is called “Shira” (song in Hebrew). Students in Shira get to study with Cantor Korn on a weekly basis, learning how they can connect meaningfully to Judaism through music. They will be exposed to many of the same key topics as the grade-level Religious School students (Torah, Hebrew, prayer, Jewish history, Israel, etc), but the modality of learning will be very different, as will the details of the curriculum. Students in this program will gain specialized knowledge and skills, including the art of cantillation, nusach (Jewish musical modes), lifecycle music, and more. Please note that participation in Shira is in lieu of grade-level Religious School classes. For more information about Shira click here.
Our Junior Choir is for all students in grades 3-6. It’s an opportunity to have fun with friends while singing cool Jewish music and hanging out with Cantor Korn. Rehearsals take place twice a month on Sunday mornings during Religious School Tefillah (prayer). The choir will perform music in Hebrew and English from a variety of traditions in a myriad of styles. This is a great way for our students to learn more about Jewish music and have the opportunity to show their Jewish pride by sharing their talents at our monthly “got shabbat?” family services, and other occasions throughout the year.
This group of dedicated singers will sing on the High Holy Days, selected Shabbat services throughout the year, and other special occasions. The group will meet to rehearse every other week on Wednesdays from 6:00-6:45 p.m. Check our calendar for current rehearsal dates.
