What is Camp Kefli
The name Kefli comes from a Hebrew expression used by Israeli youth, Ayzeh Kef Li– “I’m having a great time.”

The name Camp Kefli reflects our spirit of informal, well-structured summer fun infused with a strong sense of Jewish community. We are excited to bring that Kefli Ruach (spirit) back in-person this summer!

Why Camp Kefli?
At Temple Isaiah we strive to provide a vibrant Jewish educational experience for our youth. Kefli is a key component of our comprehensive approach to integrating formal and informal Jewish education. The Camp Kefli experience enhances a child’s year-round Jewish learning and promotes a positive connection to Temple Isaiah.

Our Plan
The campers say that Kefli is the BEST TWO WEEKS OF SUMMER! Having learned the value and benefits of a two-week experience, we will once again be offering one 2-week session.

We recognize that two weeks does not work with everyone’s schedule. Since one of our primary goals is building friendships and community amongst our Temple Isaiah youth, Temple Isaiah members can request to enroll for one week only either July 22-26 or July 29-August 2. We will try our best to accommodate those requests. Limited spots will be available. We highly recommend the two-week experience. Those requests can be sent to Jacob Friedman at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

Questions?
Contact the Camp Kefli Directors: Rabbi Alissa Miller at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) or Jacob Friedman at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address). If you have extended questions, we are happy to set up a time to talk on the phone.

From the Camp Directors

We are thrilled to be directing Camp Kefli this summer. At Temple Isaiah, we strive to provide a vibrant Jewish educational experience for our youth. Kefli is a key component of our comprehensive approach to integrating formal and informal Jewish education. The Camp Kefli experience enhances a child’s year-round Jewish learning, and promotes a positive connection to Temple Isaiah.

When asked about what led to our deep, personal connections to Judaism, the answer is simple… Jewish summer camp! At camp each of us built lasting friendships, developed a better sense of ourselves and our connection to Judaism, and simply had fun being Jewish. We are honored to have the opportunity to help create this experience for your child this summer. Welcome to Camp Kefli 2024!

L’Shalom,
Rabbi Alissa Miller and Jacob Friedman

Activities Summer 2024
This summer, like all others, campers will experience fun-filled activities that create lasting friendships and a strong sense of Jewish identity. We will be transforming the grounds of Temple Isaiah into spaces for interactive and creative programming, with theme days, arts & crafts, Macabbiah (color wars), kumzitz skits and more. Every age group will also experience great adventures around the Bay Area; leaving the Isaiah campus at least three times each week.

Our older campers in units Dalet and Idan Chadash (entering 6-8th grade) who are eager and ready for more independence will have unique experiences that will build their sense of independence, responsibility, and leadership skills. (a.k.a They go on more adventures and have either an overnight at Temple or a camping trip each week of camp.)

Every moment of Camp Kefli this summer will be planned to help cultivate friendships and feel the strength of community.

We are working on the specifics of the Kefli schedule for the summer. Throughout the spring and into the summer more details will be provided as they are finalized

5 Eidot (Units) of Camp Kefli

Campers will be divided into age-level units that will then be subdivided into smaller groups. Each unit will be led by a Unit Head and the smaller groups will be supervised by our teen counselors who have demonstrated responsibility, talent, and maturity in other areas of our synagogue life. The activities in each unit will be designed to meet the developmental interests and needs of the campers (these are just a few examples of what’s being planned):
