Become a Literacy Tutor
For several years, Temple Isaiah has had a thriving volunteer program at Coronado Elementary School in West Contra Costa providing literacy and math tutors, as well as a full-fledged art program. More recently, we have begun to build a volunteer cadre at Fair Oaks School in Pleasant Hill. In addition, Temple Isaiah volunteer tutors are essential to the after-school Homework Club at Contra Costa Interfaith Housing. But as much as we are already doing, still more needs to be done to support the schools, particularly in the face of budget cuts and staff layoffs.
Tutoring can require only one to two hours a week and is one of the most rewarding efforts we experience: to see children “grow”
