Temple Isaiah’s Integrated Teen Programs

Temple Isaiah’s integrated teen programs are built on the principle that every event and activity, whether in the classroom or not, should advance a certain set of common Jewish values. Each element of our teen program emphasizes some or all of these core values and complements and builds on other elements in a cohesive and cumulative way. All events and activities lead to our goal of nurturing Jewishly identified people of integrity.

The core values we emphasize include:

  • Commitment to Tikkun Olam - social justice and social action
  • Creation of Kehillah - a supportive, tolerant, and interdependent thinking community
  • Individual responsibility and ethical decision making
  • Jewish knowledge and spirituality
  • Leadership development and experience

Temple Isaiah’s Teens Share Their Thoughts

Noar Night: Our Teen School

Noar Night is our Wednesday night teen school (8th -12th grade).  It is a place where teens unplug from their cell phones and Facebook profiles, and experience significant face to face interactions. It is a time where homework is temporarily set aside for meaningful conversations and the opportunity for self-discovery.  Tenth graders participate in the Confirmation program with the rabbis and our teen education culminates with a meaningful graduation ceremony at the end of twelfth grade.  Visit our Noar Night page more information about Noar Night.

Our Youth Groups

Temple Isaiah’s youth group events provide an enjoyable, enriching and safe environment for all participants. They include a wide variety of social and adventure-oriented activities with a Jewish infusion. Our intention is to allow young people to socialize, take responsibility for themselves and each other, and have new experiences within a Jewish peer community that emphasizes social action and ethical decision-making.  Follow these links to find out more about Simcha (5th and 6th Graders), Anachnu (7th and 8th Graders) and LAFTY (9th-12th Graders).

Teen Leadership

Our teens have an opportunity to receive valuable training in child development, teaching, planning and leading programs, and working with children as Avodah Teaching Assistants, Camp Kefli Counselors and Youth Group Staff.  Click here to learn more about our Avodah Teaching Assistant Program on our website or contact Rabbi Nicki Greninger, Director of Education at (925) 284-9191 or .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).  For information about becoming a Camp Kefli counselor or youth group staff member contact Ian Shore, Youth Director at the number above, or .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

Music Programs: The Mighty Kleztones

The Mighty Kleztones, Temple Isaiah’s teen Klezmer band, offers teens an exciting opportunity to learn this traditional style of Jewish music with band director, Cary Nasatir.  The Mighty Kleztones rehearses on Sunday afternoons twice a month.  Visit the music section of our website for more information about either of these program, or contact Cantor Korn at (925) 283-5875 or .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

Let’s Go: Israel Teen Trip

Isaiah teens have the opportunity to go on an unforgettable journey in the summer after 10th grade or 11th grade to Israel with Bay Area teens. Over the course of 4 weeks, participants experience the diverse landscapes of Israel and connect with the Jewish community. We encourage all of our students to participate in this trip sponsored by the Israel Center of the Jewish Community Federation of the Greater East Bay.
