Camp Kefli: K-8th Grade Summer Camp
The name Kefli comes from a Hebrew expression used by Israeli youth, Ayzeh Kef Li– “I’m having a great time.” The name Camp Kefli reflects our spirit of informal, well-structured summer fun infused with a strong sense of Jewish community.
For two weeks in early August, each morning is filled with the dynamic spirit of Temple Isaiah’s Camp Kefli. At Kefli, the day begins with excitement and anticipation. The Camp Kefli staff leads a wide range of programs that are appropriate to each age group from Kindergarten through 8th grade, filling our two one-week sessions with fun. Some programs utilize the wonderful Temple Isaiah facility while others take place off site. We offer creative theme days and adventures that enrich and delight our campers. During the summer of 2017 Camp Kefli will run for two one-week sessions from July 31st - August 4th and August 7th - 11th.
From the Camp Directors
We are thrilled to be directing Camp Kefli this summer. At Temple Isaiah, we strive to provide a vibrant Jewish educational experience for our youth. Kefli is a key component of our comprehensive approach to integrating formal and informal Jewish education. The Camp Kefli experience enhances a child’s year-round Jewish learning, and promotes a positive connection to Temple Isaiah.
When asked about what led to our deep, personal connections to Judaism, the answer is simple… Jewish summer camp! At camp each of us built lasting friendships, developed a better sense of ourselves and our connection to Judaism, and simply had fun being Jewish. We are honored to have the opportunity to help create this experience for your child this summer. Welcome to Camp Kefli 2017!

Welcome to Camp Kefli
Judaism Comes Alive…
Camp Kefli provides an environment where campers strengthen their Jewish identity and build lasting friendships within their Jewish community. Campers begin and end each day with joyous and energizing songs led by Cantor Leigh Korn. Throughout the week our programming blends Jewish learning with the fun, creative spirit of summer camp. On Fridays, we prepare for Shabbat as a camp community and end our week with Shabbat services led by our camp community.
Exploring the Bay Area…
Camp Kefli takes advantage of all of the wonders the Bay Area has to offer. Our campers are off on exciting field trips for several days each week. Field trips are planned with an eye toward safe and age-appropriate fun. We take our most adventurous field trips on the first Wednesday, our one extended day of camp. Campers in Dalet and Idan Chadash (6th-8th grade) also get to experience exciting overnights at Temple Isaiah and in the great outdoors.
Every moment of Camp Kefli is planned to help cultivate friendships. Each camper is assigned to a small sub-group that provides a home-base for that camper throughout the week. Campers go on rides, play games, and work through team building challenges that foster group identity and individual connections. Friendships formed at Camp Kefli endure throughout the school year.
Kefli Senior Staff & Counselors
All of Kefli’s programs are supervised by responsible counselors and senior staff who are deeply committed to the community and have extensive experience in Temple Isaiah’s Youth Programs. They are hired on the basis of demonstrated responsibility, talent, and maturity in other areas of our synagogue life. Each of the units of Kefli is led by a Unit Head of college-age or older with several years of camp and child-care experience.
Campers will form connections with staff members who they will see as Avodah Teaching Assistants in their JQuest classrooms, staff members on their youth group events, and leaders of the Temple Isaiah youth community. Our staff provides the pulse of energy that inspires and the compassion that comforts Kefli campers.
